Albert Einstein famously said that ‘doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results’ was ‘insanity’. LikewiseTony Robbins said “if you do what you’ve always done, you’ll get what you’ve always gotten”.
There is something within the human psyche that yearns for preciously desired goals in life, yet paradoxically (and frequently) we do not want to change our lifestyles one bit. The truth is that change takes self-control. It takes discipline. It takes motivation.
The Lurong Living Paleo Challenge stretches participants beyond their comfort zones and ultimately asks the question: how dedicated are you to making the changes necessary to be who you want to be? If you take a good dose of determination and keep an open mind to change, then the possibilities are endless. Want life to look a little different than it does now? Then expect the way you live it to be a little different too.
We live in a world that increasingly tells us that we can have what we want, when we want it. We often expect instant gratification in many areas of our lives, and we want the best of the best with minimal effort. The truth is that anything worthwhile needs input – it takes work, but boy is it worth it at the end when we reach our goals.
However, this is where it all begins to break down. Sometimes our goals do not materialize the way we wish they would, and we live in a ‘blame culture’ that blames someone or something else for failure; including diet and exercise. We blame time constraints, friends, family, finances, poor communication etc. etc. but the truth is sometimes we are the only ones to blame. Perhaps we didn’t try hard enough or we made poor choices, and yes sometimes it hurts to admit our own shortcomings. It can feel like a blow to the self-esteem, but we’ve all been there. And there’s good news! We can brush ourselves off, and keep trying until we succeed – keep making changes until we succeed. Nothing is impossible.
One of the main ways people tend to find themselves falling short of their goals is that they forward think too much in negative terms – optimists and those who choose to see the silver lining in everything are much more likely to find themselves succeeding. This is in part because of a positive attitude but also the result of a resilience and a knowledge that if they keep adapting and changing they can make it in the end.
For example, a large part of the LuRong Living Paleo Challenge is obviously participating in the healthy Paleo diet, but many associate the word ‘diet’ directly with ‘cutting calories’ but this is not the case with Paleo. In fact, it is all about getting the correct amount of calories from the right sources. Food that is rich in nutritious content that enables the body to function and perform at its very best. Instead of thinking of the diet as a cutback from the food we love, view it in terms of how much more delicious healthy food can fit into the calorie count contained within an item of junk food. The Paleo diet is not just about getting rid of the bad things that enter our bodies, but filling it with the good stuff that allows our bodies to reach their utmost potential.
